Projects

Below you will find information about the web sites I've worked on for various clients. The majority of the sites listed, however, still consist of those I designed and developed during college.

Gazette.com
	HyperLink

As an employee of the online division at The Gazette for several years, I gained valuable experience in working with Web content. The first site design that I encountered required a good knowledge of HTML because the procedure to post content used MS Word macros.

Next, Gazette.com moved to a PHP platform in 2001 and I became aware of its similarities with ASP - which I was studying at the time. I also developed a simple C# Windows Form application {screenshots: pic.1, pic.2} to increase the accuracy in posting news to the site. Although the website design changed soon after putting this tool together, it might serve as useful template for similar needs.

The current design as of September 2002 is primarily focused on the integration with Active Paper {posted on the right}. This design removes the necessity of web development skills and partly automates the process by requiring use of Adobe Acrobat as the primary tool for preparing PDF files. They released me of responsibilities several weeks after graduation because I had informed them earlier that I would be looking for full-time {and much more challenging} work.

DrStassen.com
	HyperLink

Client: Stassen Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center

Site Online: June 30, 2000

Current Design Number: 3

Newest Design Date: October 2002

Design Description: This website represents the best effort I’ve put forth for a commercial website yet. It started out in Ver 1 with a simple HTML layout. Next, I redesigned it in Ver 2 to use JavaScript more effectively to control links and UI boxes on the right side.

The goal of the newest upgrade to this website was to streamline the content management system as opposed to just designing new graphics. The previous version – before I was experienced in server side web programming - processed a large portion of the site layout with JavaScript; this overhead was completely eliminated in the ASP.NET version. The website also takes advantage of ASP.NET’s new model for include files, Web User Controls. The Web User Controls can expose properties just like any other control or object on the page, enabling many new scenarios in website applications. A template class {derived from System.Web.UI.Page} ensures that all pages have consistent layout. It accomplishes this by loading these controls at the appropriate time to plug into a standard HTML table layout. One control, for example, is responsible for accessing content from XML files to incorporate in the main template.

Online Registration System
	HyperLink

Client: College project [Hosted for Demo only]

Site Online: Fall 2002

Current Design Number: 1

Newest Design Date: December 2002

Design Description: ORS was my final project for graduation; it spanned two courses over the period of 6 months. First, the team determined the requirements and designed it; during the second course, the team implemented it in C# and tested the application. It features a solid object-oriented design, role-based security, and a three-layered architecture. Be sure to log in as Staff with ID = 2 to see the full capabilities of the application. The image to the right displays the normal browsing of course schedules. Our success in completing the application requirements was due to taking the effort to learn the correct design for our application architecture to efficiently pass data through the layers from the database, and to learn the ASP.NET DataGrid Web Control thoroughly.

American Longevity Independent Distributor Site
	HyperLink

Client: College project & personal interest [In Progress]

Site Online: July 24, 2000

Current Design Number: 4

Newest Design Date: June 2002

Design Description: This site is currently in-between designs. It recently received an update for a class e-commerce project in ASP.NET; however, it is still not as operational as planned. The previous design, Ver 3, received many compliments but didn’t provide anything beyond just information retrieval. The new site will incorporate SSL security to provide e-commerce capabilities.

The business plan my team and I wrote during this class describes the future goals of the site:

The purpose of our electronic business idea is to expand the reach of the network marketing opportunity established by American Longevity for an independent distributor in an online environment.

The service provided in our e-distributorship is what makes the difference. It enables a distributor to easily collaborate with partners and build a downline through the conveniences of the Internet - product and event information retrieval, and automation of online enrollment and buying. We also expect to provide online training to those in the distributorship. Because the company has already set the pricing, we may offer incentives to those who order or signup on our site.
